Mat Pilates was introduced to me in my teenage years as a Ballet and Modern dancer. I danced through college and a little after and continued to participate in the occasional Mat class never knowing I would one day pursue a career in teaching this modality or teaching anything for that matter. My college years and what followed after revolved around visual arts and design. Fast forward to many years bent over a computer in the design field and no longer experiencing the creativity or pleasure I hoped for, I knew it was time for a change. The world of Pilates seemed to call me back. In 2011 I traded my design skills for Pilates equipment classes and mentoring at a local studio that offered teacher training and next thing you know I was enrolled in the BASI Comprehensive Instructor Certification. I began teaching about 2 months after my certification and never stopped. It is the most rewarding work that is constantly evolving. Having long since traded in my dance shoes for trail running shoes, Pilates has assisted me in not only building strength to power over brutal hills, agility and balance to conquer rocky terrain but also in muscle recovery after those long distance runs. I hope to engage my clients with the ever evolving practice that is Pilates so it may build and guide them in their own athletic pursuits.
